Seeking Justice in Health Care:
A Guide for Advocates in Faith Communities

Seeking Justice in Health Care is a 75-page resource to help people of faith move beyond political debate to  consider how moral values and principles should inform our dialogue about health care reform.  This Guide was first created in 2004 – long before health care reform was back on our nation’s legislative agenda.  As the possibility for health care reform progressed, it was revised in 2009 to help people of faith engage in public discourse from a moral perspective.  A final edition was prepared following the passage of the Affordable Care Act to help communicate the ways in which that legislation became a first step in offering a system of health care that could include everyone and work well for all of us.  View more details about this resource

The Heart in Health Care Reform

Once the Affordable Care Act was passed, faith advocates began the work of education faith   comm

unities about the content of the legislation — and how the new law measured up to “A Faith-Inspired Vision of Health Care.”  The analysis asked whether the elements of the ACA led to inclusive, affordable, accessible and accountable health care — and identified the issues of health care injustice which would call for continued work around health care for all.

A Daily Dose of Truth

We begin with the declaration that “truth is witness to the whole.”  We know that one short sound-bite taken out of context — even if it’s a fact — does not necessarily represent the whole truth. We denounce the use of such sound-bites (from any party!) when they are intended to pervert truth for political gain. In the end, we acknowledge that a manipulation of facts to frighten and confuse vulnerable populations is just plain immoral.

New Daily Doses of Truth will be produced to address the new attacks on the Affordable Care Act.
